Officially a vagabond

19 12 2008

On Tuesday night, I finished packing all of my possessions in boxes and suitcases.  On Wednesday morning, I left my apartment for the last time ever.  Ever!  It was way too bizarre.  I hugged the front desk lady.  I said “goodbye” outloud to every room in the apartment.  I sighed a really really big sigh, cuz man, that apartment rocks.  Jon and I lived there for a year and a half: cooking in the impossibly tiny kitchen, reading on the balcony, trying to sleep through the banging of the furnace, and bribing people to be our friends by bringing them to our roofdeck.  (Killer view.  All the monuments, cathedrals, everything.  One of the top ten things I will miss in DC.)

What a sad living room!

What a sad living room!

So now I’m in St. Louis for a big 19 days, while poor Jon is stuck in DC to clean up the apartment.  But he’ll join me in the vagabond life by the end of the week.  The oddest thing about this so far is explaining to people where to mail me things.  Like at the dentist last week, the receptionist asked me where the bill should be mailed.  “Well, that depends on when you’d send me the bill.”  Huh?  “Well, I’m living here for a while, then there, and then no where.”  Yeah, makes lots of sense.  But I’m feeling a lot better about everything now that we’ve finally bought our cross-Pacific tickets.  The world itinerary actually includes other countries now!

Sigh, goodbye apartment.  Happy almost Christmas, everyone else.
